10:00am - 12:30pm Woodlawn Bioreactor & World War II Fuel Stores

Embark on this fascinating, comprehensive tour of the Woodlawn Bioreactor.
Woodlawn mine produced copper, silver, lead and zinc ore between 1975 and 1998
from both open cut and underground mining. The site, now a landfill project like
no other in Australia, is owned and operated by Veolia, a leader in waste management.
Veolia is currently developing the world's most advanced bioreactor.
Waste will become the fuel for producing considerable volumes of landfill gas to
generate green electricity sufficient to power a city of 30,000 people for more than
one hundred years. At Woodlawn your tour guide will explain the whole operation.

A visit is also made to the original RAAF Emergency Fuel Stores constructed hastily
in 1943 at Lake Bathurst. This historic site, with 5 underground Fuel Bunkers built
especially for the RAAF, is the only facility of this kind open for inspection in
Australia. There was originally 32 such emergency fuel depots constructed for the
RAAF and spread Australia - wide at secret locations. A small private museum and
display has been established on the site.

On your return to Lake Bathurst, you will enjoy a sumptuous 2 course lunch in
the Tea Rooms / Function Centre
1:45pm - 2:30pm Heritage Display & Lavender Gardens

After lunch, inspect the new Heritage Display at the Function Centre.
Wander through the lavender gardens to the nearby St. John's Anglican Church (1860),
with its magnificent stained glass windows. Also peruse the lavender gift shop,
which offers a range of lavender based products plus the garden's own loose lavender
and Essential Lavender Oil
